Edgewood’s Lane Deckard and West Vigo’s Seth Rohrbach have a history, and it ain’t been good from Deckard’s perspective.

Over the last two seasons, Rohrbach is 5-0 in their duels: 9-4 (WICs), 13-8 (sectional), 2-0 (regional) last year at 126 pounds and this year at 132, 7-3 (WICs) and 2-1 (sectional).

The Mustang junior finally broke the jinx Saturday in the finals of the Bloomington South Regional, topping Rohrbach, 4-3, in dramatic fashion, of course. He was one of six champions from Monroe County and 14 overall to move on to the Evansville Semistate next weekend at the Ford Center.

Also coming out on top were Cash Turner (106) of Edgewood, the Ruhlman boys from South, Delaney at 120 and Tristan at 170, and Bloomington North’s Justice Cash (145) and Race Stewart (285). Terre Haute South won its back-and-forth late-season battle with Bloomington South, 137½-117½ to win its first regional title and end the Panthers’ run at seven. Edgewood was fourth (71) and North seventh (48).

Deckard (30-7) won by pin (2:40) and 14-3 major to make the finals and a Part VI sequel with the Viking senior, now (25-5). Deckard took a 2-0 lead into the third when it looked like Rohrbach might wiggle away again, getting an escape, then a takedown with 49 seconds left for a 3-2 edge.

But it took Deckard just 12 seconds to reverse the situation and he held on.

Edgewood also saw freshman Cash Turner (33-3) cash in, like Deckard, did it the hard way. He led his semifinal with defending regional champ Jainier Milanes of Jasper, 2-0, going to the third and suffered a takedown and three-point nearfall with 40 seconds to go, then came up with his own five-point play to pull out a 7-5 win.

He then rolled, 8-0, over Floyd Central’s Lou Knable for the title.

Matthew Archer (33-5) took a tough 3-2 defeat in the 195 final to Jasper’s Ashton Schuetter, giving up the winning points on a second-period reversal.

Reece Novak (21-14) was pinned in his semi at 182, but bounced back to pin South’s Boone Fowler (18-13) for third. At 138, sectional champ Jay Orman could not participate after suffering a severe injury during practice.

North’s Cash (33-1) was on a mission from the time he woke up. Pins of 25 and 34 seconds preceded one of 3:10 in the final at 145 against Codel Khawaja of Floyd to earn the senior a fourth trip to Evansville.

“He even told me this morning, ‘I feel really good this morning. I’m ready. It’s been a while since I felt like that. I’m going to make it,’” North coach Ben Farmer said. “He had the drive, which was good.

“He was just more aggressive than he usually is. He just seemed more on a roll. It just kind of shows what he knows.”

And still undefeated is Stewart, who collected three pins on his way to upping his record to 33-0. He downed South’s Conor Lucas in 3:20 in the semis then had a 7-1 lead in the third before finishing off Mitchell’s Drake Peters in 5:14.

“Race did good job today,” Farmer said. “He was definitely going after it. He has been pushing himself hard all week.”

South 120-pound freshman Delaney Ruhlman (33-2) did not mess around in winning his first regional, blowing though pins of 14 seconds and 1:19 before routing Xavier Horton of Southridge with a 15-0 technical fall.

And Tristan (34-2) more than kept up, with a pin of 23 seconds, an 18-3 tech fall and another whipping of Indian Creek’s Owen Sego in a rematch of the sectional final, 13-1.

The Panthers’ semistate contingent also includes Nicolas Castelluccio, (28-4), a runner-up at 126 after getting pinned by Floyd’s Gavin Alstott, a state medalist last year, and Wade Presson (23-8), who had to settle for second at 160 with a heartbreaking 7-5 loss in sudden-victory overtime to Southridge’s Sam Schroeder.

It was 3-3 going into the third when Presson traded two escape points for a takedown with 38 seconds left. The escape came with just eight seconds to go and Schroeder came up with the winning takedown with just three seconds remaining.

Ethan Roudebush (18-13) won his third-place match at 113, as did Lucas (15-9) at 285, with all the points scored in the first period of a 4-3 win. Cade Bengtson (12-11) wound up fourth at 138 as did Aiden Reynolds (21-15) at 132.
